Crime targeting businesses - including cyber crime - makes up for over 20% of all recorded crimes in the UK. As a business owner, you should limit the risk of being an obvious target or at least limit the risk.

  1. Start by carrying out risk assessment to identify where your business is vulnerable.

  2. Secure your business premises by fitting doors and windows locks. Install security lighting. Install CCTV for vulnerable access points. Install alarms with warning signs . If you have to, install shutters or grilles and if you have blind spots, install security mirrors.

  3. Your stuff should be informed of what to do in case of serious threat and how to detect and report crime. It's always better to give up valuables better than getting hurt.

  4. Make sure that every employee knows that you are prepared to prosecute them if you catch them stealing items from the workplace.

  5. If you are still printing most of your document, make sure you shred and bin them.
