A man who stepped in to help a security guard who was confronted with a knife during an incident at a Gloucestershire supermarket has come forward after a police appeal.
Police had been called to the Sainsbury's store in Priors Road, Cheltenham, after reports a man who had been stopped by security staff 'presented' a knife.
he suspect was being followed in the store following suspicions he was attempting to steal from the supermarket at around 1.10pm, last Wed, the 1st of May.
And a member of the public helped the security guard who was trying to stop the suspect from leaving the store.
On Wednesday, police issued a public appeal for the man to come forward.
On Thursday morning, police said:
"Officers have identified the member of the public who helped the security guard in Sainsbury's last week. The offender threatened the two men with a knife before leaving and walking along Redmarley Road.
A man was arrested in connection with this last week and has since been charged with robbery on a business premises and threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place.
